Winter is upon us and that means that cold and flu season is upon us. While getting sick is sometimes inevitable (especially if you have kids) there are a few things you can do to keep sickness-causing germs out of your vehicle. Here are a few tips from Spiffy on keeping your car germ-free this winter.

Declutter

Many of us spend a lot of time in our cars and take a lot of our junk with us. If you have little ones, this can also mean miscellaneous items like sippy cups, snacks, and toys. Because of how much they are handled, these items can become a germ magnet, especially after someone has had a bout of cold or flu. Remove all of these items and clean them thoroughly. Wipe them down with a disinfecting wipe, throw stuffed animals and blankets in the washer. Larger items like strollers and car seats can also be cleaned before returning them to the car. In fact, Spiffy offers a sanitizing Car Seat Treatment for just $19 a seat.

Disinfect

Surfaces like your steering wheel, your console, your stereo, and your power window buttons can also be a sticky place for sickness-causing germs to linger. Consider travelling with disinfecting wipes and giving these a regular cleaning to keep the cold and flu germs off your hands and out of your body. Hand sanitizer can also be a good thing to throw in your car when you can’t always wash your hands. Spiffy’s #4 Awesome Detail & #5 Totally Awesome Detail package includes a thorough wipedown of all your car’s surfaces to keep microbes at bay.

Air It Out

This one isn’t always easy during the dead of winter, but weather permitting, it’s a good idea to to roll down your windows for as long as you can and let some fresh air circulate. Stale, stagnant air can be a breeding grounds for viruses and bacteria, so just a simple thing like this can make a big difference in keeping your car a healthy place to breathe for you and your family.
