With hurricane Florence quickly approaching, east coasters are scrambling to stock up on water, gas, and food with the uncertainty of this storms impact. While we are hoping for the best, it’s smart to prepare for the worst. Here are some simple Spiffy-approved tips to keep your vehicles safe during hurricane season.

Rainy car preparing for hurricane

  1. Park inside a parking deck or garage. This will drastically lower the risk of your car getting damaged by winds or flooding. If you don’t have access to one, consider parking near a building as this will act as a barrier from high winds.
  2. Avoid trees and power lines. This may seem obvious, but cars are easy targets for trees and power lines in 80+ mph winds.
  3. Fill up on gas. Having a full tank of gas is critical if you need to flee an area due to the storm, especially with gas stations potentially in limited supply. Fill up as soon as you can!
  4. Check your vehicle beforehand. In case of a quick exit, you should check your car's tire pressure and fluids.
  5. Take pictures. For personal and possible insurance reasons, take photos of the outside and inside of your vehicles, these could come in handy if your car is damaged.
